Moving along with the painting. Now, I'm not the artist or craftsman that VG is, but I'm pretty happy with the way things are looking. Also, I'm really happy with how the latex paint is working out. Very easy to work with.
What do you guys think? I chose the white patch for the balkencruz background mostly because it was easy. Some Dr.1s had the white patch, others a white cross background. With the fuse almost painted, I can start assembling the model as I paint the wings.

Looking very good. I am about 60% done framing up my second BUSA Dr.1 as we speak. I went with natural Solartex this time as I had someone give me (4) 2m rolls of it. Comparing it to the Linen, there is very, very little difference between them. I guess I will experiment with the streaking as I get closer and see if I may need to add a slight brownish wash over the natural Solartex to get a good factory Fokker finish. I may end up not having to.
Still deciding which mount I want to go with. Been looking real closely at 413/17 but cannot decide which scheme is correct. I have seen a couple diff. pics, one shows the struts, cabanes and wheel covers black and the other shows them dark olive brown/green.
I'm also still debating how I will do the gear. On my first one, I went with GTM struts and bungeed it, may still bungee it but using the stock wire. I will def. be narrowing the gear stance a bit for a more scale appearance.

Vertical,
llllove what you did with the nose. I plan to build one in the future and want to make the nose more scale. Great job, where did you get the dummy cylinders from? Have you flown the plane yet?

Yeas, I think I have around 8 flights now. It flies as good, or better than my first one. I added around 5 degrees positive incidence to the tail to eliminate all the down elevator trim. I still have a few tweaks to get things completely ironed out, but I am very happy with it.

You're right, the Maltese are a PITA. I've done those before. And, since this is "sport scale," I opted for a simpler approach.
As far as wing and tail incidence, I'm going neutral all the way around. That may change if she requires a lot of down trim as some have indicated. Changing the incidence on the top wing or stab will be no problem.
Here she is with the bottom wing painted and attached.

Nice!
With the wings at zero, you will be fine. Just fly it. What I mean by that is give it the stick that it will need, and trim accordingly. This plane is so dirty, it will never be hands off trimmed anyway. Kind of the charm of it really. Using the rudder is a lot of fun as well. The BUSA does not need as much in the turns, but it is fun to just fly it with rudder. If this is your first tripe, you are in for great fun.

Although I still have a couple of crosses to paint, here she is:
Pretty much, all that is left is radio gear installation. My club has a fly-in on March 7-8-9, so I'm planning on a maiden flight before that. I will install the pilot so that the weight is about right, but machine guns and cockpit coaming may have to wait until later.

Looks very nice. I forgot how much work it was on the first one, to get it flying. Just when it seemed I would finish my second one, something else popped up. Especially when you make mods, and add detail. It is important to find a balance that makes YOU happy with the outcome. One thing is for sure, you will enjoy flying the DR1, especially after all of the work.
Great job!

WOW!!! Just got back from the WRAM Show, you have got to see the Dr1 Triplane there! This plane was 1/3 scale, listed as kit/ scratch, Kookos to the builder! Drop dead gorgeous, the detail is unbelievable! If there is a chance to see this on the internet. Don't miss it!
