RE: Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 build
This is my take on the Goldberg Ultimate 10 300 kit. I have built several kits from GP, Sig, and a TF Corsair. Anyone who hase skinned a Corsair wing can feel my pain, but enough on that. This Kit is by far the worst I have ever laid upon my build table. From the shabby wood that looked like a tiger had scratched at it, all the way to the plans that didnt line up due to who poor paper. I never spent so much time remaking parts for a kit then this on.
The way this plane is held together, from the lower wing mounts all the way to struts is a poor design if I ever seen one. I did get this bundle of twigs glued up and I hope it fly's better then its design. This is one plane that I will fly like I stole it. Maybe I just got a bad kit, but I wont buy another Goldberg to find out.
Good luck with all of yours.

But thats just my feeling. I certainly agree though that the 'out of the box' quality of the kit could be better. I am sure someone like great planes could do an AWESOME ultimate of this size in kit form.

I know for a fact that GP's Ultimate 40 is a great kit. I had one last year and planted it in the ground on a invert pass. It was my favorite to fun fly. The reason I got this kit was for its replacement. I have a Saito 125 and needed something to mount it too. Now I wish I had bought another GP Ultimate and put my Saito 72 back on it.
I dont expect these kits to be perfect, all kits have there problems. I'm just saying I have never seen something this bad before. My major complaint is the really bad wood, and the printed plans so far off.
If this one gets planted in the ground its back to the GP Ultimate 40 for me.

Hi all, slowly getting there with my Ultimate. I was wondering if when using the aluminum gear can you the supplied wheel spats or should I buy the one that suits the aluminum gear?

RE: Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 build
So, I have a terrible flutter problem with mine! One aileron servo in each lower wing half, a YS 110 AC, and can't fly it over 1/3 power! Sealed all hinge gaps with no change. Going to change wing incidence next and try again. They were both set at zero as the plane show but will try 1 1/2 deg. of neg. in the upper! Any other ideas!?! Thanks, Doug

Hi Doug,
The incidence will have nothing to do with flutter. I would suggest that you ensure that your linkages and the servo mounting are absolutly slop free. I use ball joints on the ailerons on mine with pull /pull on the elevator halves, one servo for each half, and one for the rudder. The servos are Hitec 5645mg. I don't have any problems with flutter.
If you are certain all is slop free and you still have flutter you may well find that fitting a conter balance weight to the aileron will help.
Cheers,
Colin

What servos are you using flynutz and what are their torque ratings? I can only echo the comments made by Crash....make sure there is zero play in the control linkages.

Dale,
If it is a Goldberg then yes, the floor of the cockpit.
The line of flight runs parallel to the top of the main fuse sides BEFORE you would have glued anything to them. Hopefully this pic of when I did mine will make my point a little clearer. You should be able to simply prop the tail up so that this axis of the plane is level with a flat surface (0 degrees). Then you can check the level of incidence on the wings which should be 0 degrees too. If it is not BANG on (within say no more than 1 notch on the robart incidence meter)don't worry too much, so long as the two wings are equal to eachother.

Also, you can consider your stab as 0 and set the wings to match! A little NEG in the upper wing never hurts either! 1-1 1/2 degs. My Pitts, Chistian Eagle and both of my Ultimates all have the Neg in the upper wing and all fly GREAT! Even our full scale Pitts, we shimmed the upper wing 1/2 inch to get it to fly right! Good luck!
