I wouldn't exactly call it an "updated" manual but it is a much better quality manual than the one that came with my kit. I couldn't even make out many of the pictures in the original manual, but they're clear in the digital copy.
I downloaded it at http://www.carlgoldbergproducts.com/ultimate.htm Just click on "order the manual" (it's free).

RE: Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 build
Well, I did the unthinkable. I took two days off from building my Ultimate...
I figured I better spend a few nights of quality time with the wife... The funny part is, I just sit on the couch & fly the G3 flight sim while we're watching TV.... I'm not addicted, I can quit any time....
Mr. Mailman brought me a present today. My Stans Fibertech cowl, wheelpants, & landing gear showed up. I'm very happy with the quality and finish. I was impressed that they even came with instructions.
I did manage to put the white monokote on the top wing and I should be able to start in on the trim pieces tomorrow.

RE: Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 build
I finished covering the top wing and have moved on to finishing up the fuse prior to covering it. I didn't realize I had so much work to do on it before I can cover. I spent the better part of this evening just sanding, filling, and sanding the fuse.
I put the LG block in and shimmed it so that the angle was in line with the plans. I forgot to take a picture of that, I'll get some tomorrow.
I basically used the stock LG block & CA'd a piece of ply to the back for extra reinforcement. I used 2 x 4-40 blind nuts to hold the LG in place.
I also painted the cabanes. (I primed them prior to assembly, but wanted the bolts painted too).
We've had a couple good weather days here in Nebraska so I've spent most of my building time at the field flying.
How are the other Ultimate builds going? Lets see some pictures

I did find out one of the negatives of having a battery powered Dremel tool. My battery kept running out while sanding holes in fiberglass cowl. I spent half of last night sanding and the other half waiting for my dremel to charge.
Great job on your Ultimate, it looks great. I think Barbie is going to be real happy in that plane.

Funny, I'm having the very same problem. Building a wing for TF Corsair and need to sand out spar for retracts. Battery died after one side! HeHe Got to bash around with my 4-Star on Sunday. 23 degrees w/ stiff breeze! One tank thru it and I was done. Waiting for the snow to melt.

Hi Joe,
The CG Ultimate has no downthrust. Good luck with the repairs.

Hey, where did everybody go?
I'm having problems with the pull-pull. It doesn't line up with the stock holes.
I put the Kleet tail wheel on before I knew that the servo horns need to go there so it's a little higher.
I think I'm going to build a new panel on the side and use those exit "fenders" they supplied.
Any ideas?

Here's mine....1.5 gal through the YS1.10 and it's the nicest flying airplane I've built in quite a while. I soft mounted the engine (Hyde mount) and the crappy ABS cowling and pants are surviving nicely.

I saw that on the other forum...that Bat is very cool. It looks great! I'm working on a few ideas and maybe you can help.
Did you paint it? I'm thinking my design can go on the glass cowl and then I could use a paper design on the rest of the body. If I had to paint some of the paper (Ultracoat) I don't know what to use.

I'll be back at it tonight. I had to go to Orlando for a conference. Too bad I couldn't bring any planes with me, the weather was perfect all week down there.

RE: Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 build
Sorry it's been a while since I posted anything. I had a couple of fun weeks at work & then had to go to Orlando for a conference, so I haven't been able to spend much time in the shop. I did get to take the family with me, so they gave Mickey a bunch of my money. [sm=rolleyes.gif]
We've got a lot of snow in the forcast this weekend, so I think I'll be getting a lot of build time in.... Hopefully I can get this baby finished!!
I was able to finish dremeling out the cowl & getting it all lined up. I was a little torn on how to set up the exhaust. I really don't like the side exhaust on my Nexstar & Extra because it seems to spray oil all down the side, bottom & top, so I'm going to try pointing it down like you see in the pictures & hope to keep most of the mess down low. I'm not sure how much RPM I lose with the exhaust deflector, so I'll probably tach it out with & without to see if I should leave that on. I think there's enough clearance that I could get away without the deflector.
How are everyone elses builds going?
Fisher, I really like the look of yours. Great job!!

RE: Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 build
First of all, I'd like to thank you all for posting your comments on the CG Ultimate kit. Although I usually build from plans, I have always liked the looks of the Ultimate, so after reading your posts, I bought one and am building it. You are all right on about the "quality" of the kit - mine had different sized ailerons, very crummy wood for many applications, and I substituted a/c ply for many of the light ply applications. I'm a little concerned about the light ply fuselage, so I'm beefing it up in the nose area, dural gear support, and wing supports. Instead of the hinges supplied, I like to use the "sewn coverite" type of hinge which gives me a sealed joint and stronger hinge joints to help eliminate flutter. I'm going to use separate servos for the elevators with carbon fibre pushrods; kevlar pull-pull for the rudder; and 4 servos for the ailerons with a JR matchbox. Since I fly off a grass field, I am putting the servo arms and control horns on the top of the lower wing so they don't catch in our high grass. With a Saito 125 up front, I want to have as much control as possible. Wings and tail are complete, waiting for the Stan's f/g cowl and dural gear so I can complete the fuselage.

Shortly after I bought my first plane I saw a video of a large Ultimate harriering on the deck with smoke all around it. From that moment on, I had to have one!!
I'm glad you're getting some value out of this thread, please feel free to post your progress.

RE: Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 build
I put a few coats of primer on the cowel last night & today. I used 400 grit wet sand paper over the whole thing before and in between every coat. I'll hit it with 600 Grit prior to applying the paint.
I spent a few hours finish sanding the fuse in preperation for covering and got started on the control surfaces.
When I was reading other posts from people building the Ultimate several people complained about covering the interplane struts. I figured I'd show a couple pictures of how I did it for those that haven't started yet. I'm not saying this is the best way to cover them, it's just the way I did it.
I basically put on the first side & cut slits at the corners so I could fold it around as shown in the first picture. I then turned it over & did the same thing except I just ironed it to the leading edge & trimmed it without overlapping to the other side (razor blade picture). I figured with all the shrinking I'd have to do I didn't want much overlap.
I took a picture before and after heat gunning it and I'm pretty pleased with the results.

Tony, your covering job of the struts looks good. Are you using Monocote or Ultracote? Thanks, Lee

RE: Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 build
spent today putting the white base on the fuse. I also started in on the trim.
My daughter felt the need to take a picture of me, so I'll share it.
I also put the final coat of paint on the cowel

That's looking good. Stan makes a good looking cowl, I noticed he has the thrust built into the cowl...nice!
I worked all weekend but I may take a couple of days off and my wife will be out so maybe I'll get caught up.
I'm going to be up till 4am finishing a work project but in the next photo I'll show you what I did on my cabanes. This came from Higley but I made some changes. I'm hoping that if I have problems with the wire on top I can just unbolt the 4 bolts on the cabane itself. It will also make it easier to cover and make any repairs. If this works out good I'll do it on the second one too.
