Looks like you build has come on fine. Just started mine over Xmas, but have nearly run out of cyno! You get through a lot with all that sheeting.
How did you make the nosecone removable, do you make another former. A picture would really help here.
I was thinking about making the Fin removable as well as it will make transport and storage easier. I suppoese its too early to think about balance points and nose weights, but one to bear in mind.
Jigging the frame for the top sheeting using the wing tubes to hold it all square and packed off of the board and then starting on the lower sheeting. It really does need clamping down as it moves all over the place.
Any tips on the planking for the tail sections? Didi you use Cyno or white glue?

Mr Nijhuis says you need noseweight, so i wanted to do it as easy as possible, i made a New former and did the planking With slightly thinner balsa, i have a removable tray from the front Wheel retract too the tip of the nose, plenty of Space. The nosecone has 3 small pins for alligment and is secured With the fuel-probe. Hope the Pictures show you my idea.

Thanks for the tip on white glue. Been away but back in the garage now.

Looks impressive, nice job so far. Good luck with the plastics. I was thinking of adding a lightweight former inside the vac mopudlings so it doesnt get crushed when I put it in the car flat rather than on its wheels as it doesnt slide around as much. I did think (very breifly) about moulding these in glass but cant be bothered.
When does the weather pick up for you to go flying?, Should be ready for the early part of the season I think.
Just finished planking the exhaust area. That was real pain as I am out of practice on this, but its done now. time to start on the front.
Hoping to get mine ready for June! ish

The plastic is sturdy, so i glue them and test the strenght after.
I was out flying today on a nearby frozen lake, the full-size airstrip for the maiden, should be free of snow early april.
I will do an early 558 scheme ( camo top, and white/grey underside)
I do all my painting with waterbased latex, and strong 2 part carpaint for clear.
Keep us posted on your progress.

Here is my progress to date. I did the same as you (good idea) and made the nose removable for the battery space. I have also had the turbine fitted to check the exhaust alignment.
The next job is to finish the front sheeting and planking and then build the nose section as another piece.
A tip for anyone else building in the future. I built the tail section off of the plane and then joined it on as per the Tony's very helpful assembly guide. It worked but was not the easiest way. For the front section I added former F6 and the top spar and glued these in place first. I then jigged up the rest of the formers and side/bottom spars over the plan making sure everything else was straight before applying the glue. It seemed easier and came out dead straight.
Also the undercarrige bay former side F21 is too long. On the plan it is the correct length on the assembled drawing but too long on the individual piece drawing. Basically cut the tab off of one end and then recut it back by the ply thickness. It should be fine then.

Another good weekend in the garage for me. Spent most of it building a removable fin.
It was a real pain to do and took ages but it will make life a lot easier to store and transport it when finished. Seein pictures of Tony's accidental removal made me think of this. It also means I can stack more in the car!
You can see from the pics I added two 10mm CF rod into reamed ally tube. The fit is really smooth but took a lot of jigging to get everything running straight and building the two new intermediate ribs.
3mm high tensile bolts will hols it all together. I will be fitting some additional bracing under the turtle deck as well, just to cope with the levering you get when fitting and removing the fin. I wished I had fitted this now before planking the rear exhaust top.
The next job is to sheet it and add the servo.

Looks great! Paint looks excellent.
Inspiring and depressing on how much work there still is to do.
Can you let us know on how you get on with the gear install, nose weights and balance points etc.

Looks Fab! Where did you get all of the decals from? The extra markings make it look so much better. In the UK Pyramid models produce a set, but not sure if it comes with all of the other warning and info decals.

Put it together today, cg is 10 cm behind the recommended spot, but i can put some batteries in the nose 110 cm in front of cg, so i dont think it need any ballast.

Been some time since my last update, she is ready for maiden, the Jetcat p80se wouldent fit, so change of plans, i have fitted a VT-80, plenty of room for that one, all wireing, lights, programming and gyro is fitted, the model will balance with no ballast, when i have all four batteries in the nose. I have 2,5 liters of fuel, so flight time around 8 min should be ok.
Some final comments:
The full kit from Nijhuis is very well cut, and with good quality ply, lite-ply and balsa. The kit builds fast and easy into a nice semi-scale model, but a lot of attention to keep everything straight is requiered. Plan all installation of wires and equipment, there is plenty of room for it, as always, keep the weight down in the tail-end.
Unilight: I have 3 nav-lights, 2 beacons, 1 anti-collision and 2 fold out landinglights, the installation in the model is easy, the lights are all somewhat small, but very very bright, the instructions says you shouldent look straight at them, and belive me, you shouldent…………The programming of the controller with usb-cable is easy too understand, and the set-up in the radio is also easy. I have worked with different manufactors of lighting systems, and Unilight is my number 1 now.
Looking forward too some nice weather with low winds for her maiden flight, will give flight report and hopefully some video.

The Vulcan has flown, it was somewhat unstable and very pitchy on elevator, got it trimmed 90% end engaged the igyro 3e, much better. On landing the nosegear hit first and ripped out the screws on the nose-retract, no damage only a few skid-marks under the nose.
