Twin Cheetahs (160s) in my build, way more than is necessary for sure. 120s should be just fine.

The first SU-30 flew yesterday. Tim Jenkinson's is the Indian scheme, twin JetCat P-140Rxi and JR 28X PB Royal set up. Only one flight as it has a few bugs to sort out before next weekend when we hope to fly it again. Nose steering servo needs more power with the weight on the twin wheels it needs more than 10kg torque.

Few pics

Great weekend at our JMA Bruntingthorpe event, two SU's Steve's SU-27 and Tim's SU-30. Both got the chance to debug and set up properly and by the end of the weekend both owners were grinning ear to ear. They even attempted some formation flying.
Few random shots.

Can someone tell me the travel distance on the gear door cylinders?

Thanks, Mike

Another weekend event meant more flights on Tim's SU-30, he's totally in love with it!

Just for testing I’m switching to robarts 5’ light wheels and brakes and see if the retract good and post, i noticed that the fit better on the wheel bay tahn the 5’ dubros I use.
they are 149gr heavier than 5’ Dubros including brakes...

Let us know how they work in flight! Hopefully the extra weight plus air resistance still works well. Comparatively, the original wheels I nearly used were about 450g each! What is your air setup like? I used two Jet Tronics dual valves, one on the nose wheel alone and one for the mains.

For everyone who’s flying these birds. Have any of you had any problems with the operation of the slats? I’m starting a build on one part way through where someone else left off. Looking forward to a detailed scale finish.

Not a single issue on mine, it has about a 100 flights already.
Don’t use them at high speed wich is obvious if you want to take care of them

Same with ours, no issues in 40-50 flights or so.

Thanks guys. I presume you’ve just mixed them with flaps. How much do they drop? The manual I got has no info on their travel etc.

Yes, mixed with flaps only. I'm not near it now but I believe the drop is about 1/4" at half flap, 1/2" at full flap roughly. That's measured at the leading edge of the inboard end of the slat (or leading edge flap if you're picky).

Finally got some work done on mine. There is a slight amount of toe out on the mains, cannot adjust these struts and I shimmed as much as I could in in the mounts. Hope it doesn't become an issue.

For those of you who used a powerbox on this plane, love to see a pic of where you mounted it!

I hear CARF changed to a different manufacturer for the landing gear. Anyone have experience with the new set of gear?

Nothing about it on the Carf site though.

Intairco makes a laser cut nose former kit that extends a tray into the nose cone, with pre-cut/drilled holes for a PowerBox Royal. I used that. You can see pics of it in the FB build photos by Intairco, I dealt with them (Peter Agnew I think?) directly through FaceBook Messenger to order the parts. They also make an aluminum pitot that threads into an insert in the front of the former.

Plugging away on mine. I have a question for those who are finished. How much do you take apart on the back end? The way mine is set up, I think I would have to pull the pipes to get to all the bolts I need to secure. I can leave the elevators on, but the stinger is the tough one. With a nose tray and the stinger attached, its gonna be really hard to transport even with my Sprinter van. No way I'm pulling the pipes each time... Hoping I'm missing something!

The tails come off the carbon pivots with the M3 cap head screws. The stinger, we made the mounting holes into key way slots and a simple twist takes that off.
Tim transports his SU30 around in a Landrover Discovery!

We don't remove the stinger for transport, no need in this case but it definitely sticks way out there. Only thing I've seen in other builds is the key slots like Dave said. I like his idea for the twist off - the other I've seen the key slots both went the same direction and then there was a canopy latch installed on the bottom of the airplane to lock it in place after it's slid down.

Of course, you have the plane mave built right? He integrated that carbon tube into the stinger to make it a structural lifting point, so you wouldn't be able to use the key slot method with that tube passing through - actually, you could do the twist method I suppose.
