Neil, Thanks for the pics, kind of helpful for me too.
Just a thought: the inner and outer tube of my stock pipe from Seba are only connected at the end and at the beginning of the pipe. Hence, I would think that mounting the pipe at the tail end of the pipe at the aft former position in the fuselage is the strongest solution. At the second former from the back, the outer and inner pipe are not connected, with potential risk of buckling the outer pipe at rough landings when it is fixed in this location.

I just received my Avanti XS from Lindinger today. 16 days from order placement to at my doorstep. Not bad considering it came from Austria.

Beautiful jet! The only thing that keeps it from being perfect is the tinting on the canopy has made it look cloudy. Other than that it has a pretty flawless finish!

Used denatured alcohol and a microfiber cloth to remove the blue tint that was causing the cloudiness. A little plastic polish tomorrow and this transparency will sparkle.

Surely there is a fuel tank out there that fits this plane. I am aware of the one from cmjets but isn't there something else with a bit more capacity? What tanks or combination of tanks are you guys using in yours?

I think, in the interest of keeping the all up weight as low as possible, that I am going to go with the Kingtech K-85 engine which is a full pound lighter than the K-100. I am also installing the Electron Combo electric gear and brake set for this one.

I used Futaba S9650 minis on all the control surfaces except flaps which called for a full size servo. Flaps are Futaba S3071HV. I have a Hitec micro on the nosegear door. An S9650 on nose steering as well. As you well know, the plane comes with servo mounts already set up and drilled for the recommended servos which are unobtainable JR servos. All of the mounts had to be enlarged for the servos I have used.

For the guys using the SebArt/JP stock gear controller. Is it a combo gear/brake controller. Lipo 2s in 6v out to gear. Does that same voltage go to brakes and door servo?

Just finished up the cockpit on my XS. In the first photo the front seater was too tall for the canopy so I had to remove him and grind off a bit of the torso for a better fit. Pilots are from Aces of Iron and are 1/5th scale.

None of the mounting holes matched those already on the plane so I had to knock out the pre-installed blind nuts, fill the existing holes with Hysol 9462 and drill and tap new holes to mount the Electron gear. So far only the retracts have been mounted. Still waiting on the engine to come in and get mounted before deciding where to install all the other internal gadgets including the retract controller. The strut on the mains is slightly above the mold line of the surface of the wings so it looks like I will not be able to use the gear doors supplied with the plane.

I added an additional thickness of plywood for the nosegear retract and tapped the holes for 6-32 bolts. In the second photo you can see where I had to remove a little bit of plywood so the steering arm would have clearance.

Default Control deflections

Hi XS-pilots,

I'm building new Avanti XS with Kingtech turbine K85G and did setup all control deflections according manual.
Looks ok to me but I would like te get your feedback with these settings.
Specially the down elevator mixing when using flaps.
8% down elevator for 20° flaps and 14% down elevator for 50° flaps.
When setting flaps the elevator D/R switches from 50% to 100%.
To me, the 8% and 14% down mixing looks a lot. Or more than I'm used on other planes...
All feedback is welcome!

i just looked at mine. I use flight modes so I trim in each flap position there are 3 clicks of down trim at take off flaps and 6 clicks at landing flaps not much down at all maybe 3 mm at full flaps

Yeah I think that is too much down trim also. I use Flight modes and test it at altitude, and adjust the elevator trim for each Flap setting.

I also remember reducing the factory recommended mix during my first flight.

Default Flap-Elevator mix

Thanks for the inputs!
On my Spektrum DX9 I used the flap menu.
Here I can set elevator down mix for each flap position. But it is hard to change these settings during flight. I have to look at the screen and use the scroll bar to change down mix.
I did not know the flightmode menu remembers the trimposition for each flightmode.
That way I can set the downtrim just by using the ELE trimknob in each flightmode...
I will start with 1,5mm down for 1/2 flap and 3mm down for full flap.

Myself and Neil were flying ours yesterday,. we are both running about the same aileron 90 to 100% of available movement, I have my elevator on 75% neil 100%, there is some down trim for landing flap, about 3 or 4mm,

I received my Kingtech K-85 engine finally on Christmas Eve. What a little jewel this is. It looks tiny! Installed the engine today so it is now time to decide what pipe works best with this engine. What pipe is best for use with this engine?

OK. Subsequent to this request I spoke to Dirk about the smaller size Grumania pipe and that is what I now have on order.

Steve,

Stock pipe from seba should work pretty well, around 70 mm ID.

I am at the stage on my Avanti that I need to drill the holes in the spar for the bolts that will retain the wing.

Since the "instructions" such as they are, don't even address this step, my thinking is to use a 4-40 bolt which will require drilling the hole in the wing a bit larger and then threading the hole in the wing skin as well as the spar with a 4-40 tap.

What have all of you used on yours?

Since there is virtually no load on the screw and its job is to merely prevent the removal of the wing, I used a #2 x 9/16” servo screw. The plane has flown at least 30 times without loosening at all.
