RE: Fly Eagle F-15 (1/9) Building Thread
Hi,
Eagle Driver show his rudderr / fin ... and i show the flap an the ail.
in the rudder is my servo installed like as eagle drivers installation... but his installation is much stronger thane mine. i'm sure this way to install the rudder servo is strong enough... i hope so ... because one of the plywood which i glued in ... is next to the arbor ...

RE: Fly Eagle F-15 (1/9) Building Thread
Hi,
Yes it is a good idea to countersinking the hole ... to have more space for the screws... i did this on 3 or so holes...
And a little tool which i made ... is a drilling jig ... the the pic
ORIGINAL: rhklenke
I would note that I had to put holes in my servo hatches to clear the scres that hold the aluminum servo mounts down, but that is not that big of a deal...

Oh, OK, my bad - sorry.
I think that installing the servo that way in the fin is OK. I thought he had done his that way in the wing...

RE: Fly Eagle F-15 (1/9) Building Thread
Hi Peter and All,
I am also building an FEJ F-15 as my first jet and have been reading this tread closely.
I happen to be starting with the fin/rudder in my build.
I notice that you are mounting the servo arm toward the inside so as not to upset the decorative work on the outside face of the fin/rudder. That is how I want to do it also.
Could you please post some pictures of your left fin/rudder servo install please.
Thank you,
Allen

Peter,
Hello.
I am not an ebay user, but I would like to see your plane. Please provide better ebay directions as to where to look exactly for your plane or mayv=be an I.D. number.
Thanks,
Allen

Peter / Jimingu
I think you may be making a mistake with the fins. Peter, is the fin with the fatter EW pod on the top your right-side fin? If so, there may have been a mistake - my research photos show that the F15s have the fatter pod on the left fin - see the attached. Also the dark grey centre is on the outside face of the fin and the lighter grey centre on the inner - again see the attached. On my FEJ F15C I have the colours as per the full size and the fatter EW pod is on the left hand fin. And, the cut-out for the rudder servos is thus on the inner face of the fins - so no need for me to cut a further hole to preserve the markings. Its better explained in photos I think.

I agree - I just don't understand the requirement to cut out a hatch on the outside face of the fin - or is that for access to fibreglass the servo box in position?

Hi,
I'm full agree with you ... i didnt understand this to and tell this question to FEJ ... they told me that this is easier to build the fins.
But it is as is ...

Hi Peter,
I see. Perhaps it is time for FEJ to start supplying some building instructions with their models? I am finding it quite difficult to assemble my F15 without instructions.
Anyway, yours is looking good. When do you plan to fly it?

Originally FEJ had the servo hatches on the inside of both fins. They later changed it to have the servo hatches on the left side of both fins. I know this because my kit originally came with fins that had the servo hatches on the inside. Unfortunately, I damaged those fins by stepping on them while they were in my garage [:@] The replacements I ordered came with the hatches on the left side. James told me that they made this change so that builders could put the servos on the same side and thus run the rudders without needing a Matchbox (or reversed servo) on them.

RE: Fly Eagle F-15 (1/9) Building Thread
Hi Bob,
Curiouser and curiouser. My F15 was only delivered last October/November and has the hatches on both the inside faces of the fins. Query? Have I got an "old" set of fins on an "improved" model?
However, thanks to the wonders of HiTec I will not have the asymmetric servo problem as I can programme one rudder servo to operate in reverse - so long as I use digital servos on the rudders. Ouch! Another £120 sterling................
Cheers

RE: Fly Eagle F-15 (1/9) Building Thread
Hi Bob,
This was a locic failure from FEJ ... i use both servos on the same cannel without a matchbox because the direktion on rotating is the same on both servos .. there is no needing for a match box
When i steer to left and the servoarm is left than the arm goes forward...
When i steer to left and the servoarm is right than the servoarm goes backward ...
and if u have a look from top to the servo ... it has the same direktion. There i no reason to change the direktion of the servo... in cause of this there was no reason to go outside of the fin in at the same side with the servoarms...
No trick.. no magic ..
with greetings from Cologne...
Peter

How ever ... i'm looking forward to have the first flight ....... and well first landing
reply to the last post from Simon : I've got standard servos in the fin to ... i hope they are strong enough

Simon,
I am not sure of the lineage of your kit. Perhaps they changed back to the old way? I'm not sure why they would change back and forth twice though?!?
Peter, you are right now that I think about it - which leaves me wondering why they really changed it, but that is what James told me. BTW, my second pair of fins not only had the hatches changed, but the colors had changed *significantly* and so they don't match the fuselage... [:-]

Hi,
This exelent work what i saw were written in German and English ...
This building manual is a well manual... he wrote about all dimensions of the drills holes.. every buildingstep has its own picture etc... I'm sure he spent a lot of time to realize this 'book' This manual is not a manual in one or two letter ... when this manual is finished ... i think it has more sides than a big roman.
greetings from Cologne
