Interestingly enough, though, I have an old Carl Goldberg spinner here that I was fitting to my son's trainer. It was harder to trim the plastic on the 3" Goldberg than the composite 6" one from Phoenix. I wonder if a rigid plastic might not work better than this spongy one they send?

Got my ARF couple of days ago, I’m pretty pleased with how it looks, I was wondering how much toe-out does the gear supposed to have,does this loook right?

I think maybe that's 'camber.' I have about 2 degrees of toe-in on mine.

I had some people ask about how I made the adapter bolt for the Mick Reeves spinner. This photo shows what I did. I used a connector with two lock nuts. I turned the end of one bolt and re-threaded it to match the engine's 5mm bolt size.
The Mick Reeves Spitfire spinner has the long look that is a hallmark of the Griffin powered Spitfire. Some may be willing to try to stock spinner, but the price of a failure is high causing me to look for other options.

I thought I'd show my DLE-61 install and how I'm handling the cooling issue. My openings are quite large. To minimize the amount of material I ground off the front of the cowl, I heated and bent it down giving more inlet to the fins. I blocked off the front of the scoop, and made openings in the back. By putting a piece of wood in between the two openings, it should look normal on a low fly-buy (light doesn't show through the holes). I'm confident cooling won't be a problem.

The plane is built and ready for final paint and detail. Total weight came in at 27.8 lbs. I'm real happy with that, light for this size plane. Initial CG checks indicate I'll need about 10 oz. of weight in the nose to meet the recommended CG. To preserve the panel line and rivet detail I'll be painting a thin coat, so I don't expect much added weight from that. I mounted the Receiver battery in front of the tank, and the ignition battery on top of the engine box.
I found some Rustoleum spray paint that matched the Medium Sea Gray quite well (Winter Gray). A tad light, but still more accurate than the stock film. I'll use Testors paint for the Ocean Gray and Dark Green on top. Won't be long and I'll have it done. Stay tuned for more photos.

Painting and detailing is done. All I have left is to paint the pilot figure. I'll have a long wait until spring here in Iowa. Looks like it will be decent outside Saturday, so I'll get it out for some photos in the sun.

You sure do some great work!!!! I finished mine two weeks
ago, three owesome flights and hopefully many more, nothing fancy on the built except for
adding choke servo and using different fuel tank.
Im waiting for a new spinner so don’t judge

I haven’t updated my info, I flew at Camp Pendleton JMRC @ LZ53 for many years, Once I retired I moved back to San Antonio TX couple of years ago. Thanks for the invite 😎

Based on pure scale he'd be a bit small. He's pretty close to an actual 1:5 scale. The cockpit is quite a bit smaller scale than the plane though. I put in an accurate 1:5 scale cockpit dash from Iflytalies, and I had to cut it down quite a bit.
There are always limited choices and compromises for pilots. The WarbirdPilots figure is taller at 15", but his head is no bigger. You'd have to do a lot of shrinking of the legs to make him fit in the cockpit. In the end you have a pilot that doesn't look much larger.
So all things considered, I'd say he fits about as well any I've done, and looks close enough.
Here are some others I've done, along with comments about the fit:
Warbirdpilots 15" in 1/4 scale LA-7 (too small, but nothing else out there).
Japanese Pilot Gi-Joe in 1:5.5 scale Ki-61 (very close to the perfect size).
Best Pilots Saburo Sakai in TopRC Zero (1:5 scale) Good fit
10" figure in 1:6 scale Hawker Hunter (Small for plane, perfect for cockpit)
Best Pilots Gunther Rall in 1:5.2 Ziroli Stuka (a bit large)
Best Pilots Gunther Rall in 1:5 Top Flite FW-190 (Perfect fit, made for the plane)

I was pretty shocked the first time I ever saw a full-scale Spit in the museum. That bubble canopy looked like it was only big enough for the pilot's head!

Spitfire and BF-109 both have tiny little canopies. Even though I said the cockpit is too small on this Spitfire, I think the canopy is a bit large. The stock pilot is perfect for it, he has a 1:6 scale body with a 1:4 scale head.
When dealing with a pilot for an ARF cockpit, I'm usually content to get something that looks about right, even if it's not really scale in size.
