Very good. I love following what others are doing, too. Looking forward to following your progress.

What is is the racing scene like, where you are?

Really nice looking design and showed up with no blems or damage. Always liked the silver canopy and super excited about this model after seeing the world record holder race at Reno this year. Have a YS115FZS sitting around not getting used as well.

I replaced the spring gear with a set hobby kink struts, The landing were very hard not to bounce the plane hard. We also put flaps on her, this is a heavy 40 size plane that moves out with the ys.

What YS do you have in it, and also prop nitro combo?
Thanks,
Mike

Story on the Strega, We stripped it down, glassed with .5 oz fiberglass cloth and then painted with automotive paint. The engine is a ys 1.15 warbird special, running 30% fuel, that is the minimum YS recommends. Have only flown with a 14x11 apc, but have a 14x12, 14x13 and a 13.5x 13.5. Will try the other props in about 3 week. The 14x11 turns about 10,500 on the ground and really move the plane, radar is about 120, vertical is unlimited. The plane weighs 8.5#s. this isn't a typical 40 size plane it is built to handle the ys racing engine. That is why I decided to add the flaps, really just carrying the 2 extra servos. The plane flies like its on a string no bad habits but landing is a chore, better not get to slow even with the flaps she eats up the runway. In California a gentleman is pushing this plane up to 200 mph with 60% fuel and a 14x16 apc prop. Sure he has to slow down to race that plane.

If I recall, that's the break-in on the 115S which is still on my WM P-51 60. It also weighed around 8.5lbs with a 65in wing though.

For breaking in the YS115WS you can use what is shown in the user manual, anything from a 14x6 up to a 14x11. For actual racing everyone is using a 13.5x13.5 APC, or a 13x13N on 30% which give you around 10200 - 10500 RPM on the ground and it will then unload more in the air, perfect for gold class racing.

I don't know him personally, he is one of the scale racer's that frequent this site and RC Group. keep in mind he was using 60% fuel also. I really don't doubt him as mine on 30% will run about 130Mph. He also stated he took a apc prop and re-pitch it.

If you find his name would you send me a link? We did a speed contest awhile back and had the best of the west coast guys enter this contest with special race planes and 75% nitro and above and the contest was won with a speed of 203 mph. I was holding the radar gun I didn't get to make a pass as I burned up my engine with 75% nitro as I was to lean. I find it very hard for a WM strega, a 14x16 APC prop and only 60% to run 200. I have a few of these planes and run them on 60% in the races with a 13.5x13.5 APC prop and might see 175 in a dive to the start.

Been wanting to dip my toes back in R/C Pro racing so I orderd the WM Strega . I still have my old 115S on a Hays mount. What mods. are you guys doing to this plane? I plan to run Silver , and perhaps later a up the nitro and run a couple races in Gold.

No mods needed with this plane. Could airfoil the stab but bone stock is perfect for silver and just add nitro for gold.

I use JR 821 digital standards on most all of my race planes. Dont need big high dollar servos.
