I ended up using the the gear that came with the kit. It was a little time consuming to fit everything together. Mine was silver soldered as opposed to using low-fusing lead/tin...

Everything looks pretty straight-forward, except for the area just adjacent to the fin. That will probably become apparent as things are assembled.

Glad you got your hinges figured out. I've been thinking about using Robarts on the rudder and elevator. Even with jigs and guides for cutting the slots for pinned hinges or CA...

Look at the lower, right-hand corner of Plate 2 of the drawings. There is a detailed drawing there labeled "Bottom View of Fuselage". That small drawing shows their location...
