RE: TOM BRETT'S DESIGNS-UPDATE

Hi Duane, that is all very interesting, as always. Now I'm even provoked to throw in another two Eurocents, or maybe even three. ;)

First, it's good to know that the TBX's main gear swivels....

RE: TOM BRETT'S DESIGNS-UPDATE

Can't wait to see it! Same e-mail, just wondered if you tried the simulation. ;)

RE: TOM BRETT'S DESIGNS-UPDATE

Hi Duane! Actually it looks like a push-pull-linkage with thin wires. It seems too thin for a pushrod and I don't see something like a clevis either. Just a thought...

RE: TOM BRETT'S DESIGNS-UPDATE

...and there's only ONE light blue. Likely, the scanning software did its best to map the colors of the photo to the limited digital color range. It failed only in the bright parts where brightness...

RE: TOM BRETT'S DESIGNS-UPDATE

Reminds me of the Taurus plans issue. You have to face several sources of "errors" or differences. A good reference is always the rib spacing being a nice round number. And nearly always the tip...

RE: TOM BRETT'S DESIGNS-UPDATE

Very nice Duane, and now I know what pups are and that the British Beagle Aircraft Limited once aptly named their training aircraft Pup - the Beagle Pup.

Tom Brett's drawing of the wing ribs is...

RE: TOM BRETT'S DESIGNS-UPDATE

We're both kidding, and it's these darn digital cameras that we have all this fuss. EXIF is the format of the data stored in each picture file, and the program (PTLens) looks there for the focal...

RE: TOM BRETT'S DESIGNS-UPDATE

As to the TBX-1 wing, there's no picture of a plan view, but the small ribs have long tabs and the big ribs have small tabs. The upper part in the third picture could be a brace. Looks all like...

RE: TOM BRETT'S DESIGNS-UPDATE

Ouch, that's me, I keep confusing left and right as well. :D

Duane, despite your strong and honorable efforts your camera distorts nearly all of your shots, and obviously you don't even know...

RE: TOM BRETT'S DESIGNS-UPDATE

The first picture is excellent, the stab seen dead rear. Top and bottom side are drooping from root to tip, that is the anhedral (the reverse of dihedral). It seems to be 3 degrees (on each side),...

RE: TOM BRETT'S DESIGNS-UPDATE

Yes it does, but I think that's simply lens distortion. Unfortunately there are no EXIF data in the picture so we can't undistort it. Maybe Duane can do it or otherwise provide an undistorted plan. I...

RE: TOM BRETT'S DESIGNS-UPDATE

Good analogy to building model yachts! But the center rib is lofted (has two tabs), it's just drawn outside the plan view as is the tip block. I think the plan view is a bottom view and the stab is...

RE: TOM BRETT'S DESIGNS-UPDATE

Duane, after just looking over the stab drawings I think it has a substantial amount of anhedral. All pictures you posted give that impression, especially the attached one. There seems to be...

RE: TOM BRETT'S DESIGNS-UPDATE

Must be check valves.
There's no foam around the tank, I wonder about fuel foaming.

RE: TOM BRETT'S DESIGNS-UPDATE

Some additional thoughts on the main landing gear: ;)

The wire is too thin to carry the weight so there is a spring strut (just don't remember the correct name) similar to those on old light...
