RE: Fly Eagle F-15 (1/9) Building Thread

It definitely will fly with a P-80. Takeoffs will be a bit on the long side and the verticals won't be too good, but it will fly fine and will be a good jet to learn on. However, the plane really...

RE: Fly Eagle F-15 (1/9) Building Thread

What is the thrust of your turbine? 27-30 lbs thrust is perfect for this airplane - you will be disappointed with much less than that...

RE: Fly Eagle F-15 (1/9) Building Thread

Alex,

Perhaps there is someone out there who has done it and can give you 1st hand info., but the FEJ F-15 is almost exactly the same as the JL one and the SM one, so I would think that it would...

RE: Fly Eagle F-15 (1/9) Building Thread

Actually we had one slightly hot start and the covering on the fuselage right behind the motor melted... [X(]

I guess the stab is back far enough that the exhaust cools down. We also have...

RE: Fly Eagle F-15 (1/9) Building Thread

A unit like you are looking for would be nice - I'm not a big fan of the steering cables either. I've replaced my nose gear with a Robart unit, so I don't have the problem with the engagement to the...

RE: Fly Eagle F-15 (1/9) Building Thread

You should bolt the mount to the engine outside of the airplane and then lay the complete assembly onto the rails. If the rails are too close together to let the mounts lie flat, you'll have to...

RE: Fly Eagle F-15 (1/9) Building Thread

Ah yes, I think I remeber. Its an "O" ring that is pushed sideways into the hub - and then there is nothing to pull it back away from the hub - that's what causes the brakes to stick. I would lube...

RE: Fly Eagle F-15 (1/9) Building Thread

I have my gas and fuel solenoids and fuel pump back where Peter has his ECU. One suggestion I would make is, if you put something back behind the back of the engine, put a simple heat shield between...

RE: Fly Eagle F-15 (1/9) Building Thread

The servo extensions on the same side as the ECU go right by it and I have not had any problems with that.

I believe that there should be a brake shoe between the bladder and the hub - if not,...

RE: Fly Eagle F-15 (1/9) Building Thread

My ECU is in the space in front of the saddle tanks on the side of the intake. My UAT is in the same location on the other side. I had enough room there to also put the light controller and its...

RE: Fly Eagle F-15 (1/9) Building Thread

My main advice is to build it like you are going to ahve to take the nose off multiple times - because you're going to have to take the nose off multiple times. For me, that means keeping the engine...

RE: Fly Eagle F-15 (1/9) Building Thread

Thanks, I'm hoping to get many more flights on it. Actually, I was worried about the structure, but after I had the wing come off (on the ground luckly [X(] ) and beefed up the structure, I'm pretty...

RE: Fly Eagle F-15 (1/9) Building Thread

Oh, no problem! ;) I just didn't want anybody to think "you knew they had a problem, why didn't you do that before you installed them?" - the answer being that, at that time, there was *no*...

RE: Fly Eagle F-15 (1/9) Building Thread

Agreed. However, mine was like number 2 or 3 out of the factory 2 years ago (something like that) and I didn't realize that they would have all of these problems - starting with the original crappy...

RE: Fly Eagle F-15 (1/9) Building Thread

Update:

I've gotten 7 or so flights on the repaired F-15 and everything is good so far as the repairs go. However, at the Liberty Bell Jet Rally, my main tank split open when I was fueling it...

RE: Fly Eagle F-15 (1/9) Building Thread

Actually, I did cut the same hatch on the other side and reinforced that one too. The other vertical stab was not completely knocked off by the wing, but it was loosened, so it needed to be...

RE: Fly Eagle F-15 (1/9) Building Thread

Now, to fix the vertical stabs. The one that wasn't completely broken off was still loose. Inspection showed that the existing ply bulkhead that gives the tail most of its side-to-side stiffness, was...

Here in the first picture you can see the damage to the wing at the root where the spar pulled out. You can also see the access holes I cut into the root of the wing to get...

RE: Fly Eagle F-15 (1/9) Building Thread

After the wheel turned 90 degrees, the wing tip hit the ground and apparently caught on something (however, there were no marks on the wingtip, so it was a minor hit at best). This caused the wing to...

RE: Fly Eagle F-15 (1/9) Building Thread

OK, so here is the failure that started the problem with my FEJ F-15. On landing, the axle turned 90 degrees. If you look closely at the 2nd picture, you can see that the set screw on the axle block...

RE: Fly Eagle F-15 (1/9) Building Thread

Sean,

I don't think that they sell it without the gear. The "normal" or sport version is $1250, and the "advanced" version (more scale gears, opening canopy, speed brake) is $1850, I believe.

RE: Fly Eagle F-15 (1/9) Building Thread

Shaz,

I will take a few pictures of what I did this evening. What happened to my plane was basically if you grabbed onto the carbon spar and pulled on it, it would break loose from the BALSA...
