Sky, thank you, I think I got it, area minus cut outs X 144. than weigh plane, weight X 16, than divide weight by area.
Comes out to 22.2 wing loading which is not to hatefull,, moving engine...

OK will leave covering alone for now, was thinking of moving engine forward, but can only gain about 3/8 of an inch.
I also considered cutting off wooden mounts & installing after market nylon...

I calculated the balance point using a mean cord of 12.75 in. I used a dropline (line with a weight attached)
from the frt LE to the rear of the bottom TE, than blocked the plane up...

Having finally got the balance pt adjusted to 27&1/2 % I now seem to have too heavy of a plane.. 1/6 scale pica
What is the normal acceptable weight range fo the 1/6 scale pica.

I don't think you can harden aluminum. Hardness is determinded at the time the aluminum is made depending the amounts of aluminum and other alloys are added.
