RE: Goldberg Extra 300

Agreed! I made just the landing gear modification to a very old model changing from the wire gear to nylon angled forward on a plate and it now handles great on the ground for taxi and landing.

RE: Goldberg Extra 300

Thanks Karol, and the same to you.

Quite a change in conditions from my last time flying, almost 40 degrees! It's suppose to plunge back in to the below freezing temps starting tommorrow with...

RE: Goldberg Extra 300

Got up to the field very late today for my annual New Years day flying and had a great time. I flew the Goldberg Extra along with my Seagull electric Extra and ParkZone SE5a until the sun went down....

RE: Goldberg Extra 300

Here is a short video from today.

http://youtu.be/pH8pnEc-1fI

I would strongly suggest you give float flying a try if you can. My older brother has been float flying for many years and...

RE: Goldberg Extra 300

It was in the high 40's low 50's today and the snow was melting fast. There were a few guys flying gliders with a gas powered tug plane and couple of electric powered planes. The snow was very...

RE: Goldberg Extra 300

If the snow is deep, fresh powder I find floats to be the way to go. Skis just can't support the weight and the model sinks before it can get enough airspeed to take off. If you do manage to take...

RE: Goldberg Extra 300

We had 12" of snow in aour area the day before Thanksgiving so I put the skis on today and headed up to the KVMA field. The snow had settled quite a bit with warmer temperatures the last fews days. ...

RE: Goldberg Extra 300

Thanks for the heads up. I have no experience with ASp engines so I'll be sure to monitor it as I continue to break it in. It runs really well on 10% and it's less expensive, but I'd rather take...

RE: Goldberg Extra 300

Yes, one mounted in each wing panel with a short pushrod. Not looking for 3D, just a little better response. They had been mounted at the furthest hole out on the nylon aileron control horn and I...

RE: Goldberg Extra 300

I found it would do a pretty large loop with a good build up of speed going into it. I'm still running it a little rich and on 10% nitro fuel. I'm sure it will continue to perform better as I fine...

RE: Goldberg Extra 300

I broke in the new ASP .61 2-stroke yesterday at the field and did a few test flights with it and I'm quite happy. It provides a lot more thrust with the same APC 13 x 6 propeller than the Magnum...

RE: Goldberg Extra 300

I had an OS .61 on it before and it flew very well, better than with the Magnun .91. I had the ASP on hand from a recent swap meet so I figured I'd give it a try before anything else. I also run...

RE: Goldberg Extra 300

I swapped out the Magnum .91 four stroke for an ASP .61 two stroke last night. It was pretty easy since the bolt pattern is the same and I already had a Pitts style muffler installed before. I had...

RE: Goldberg Extra 300

I have an OS 91 4-stroke on a 9-1/2 lb Great Planes Super Skybolt kit built biplane with an APC 13 x 6 and it really goes and has great vertical and level flight performance. It's one of the fastest...

RE: Goldberg Extra 300

Not sure what the problem is, but the Magnum didn't perform as well as I had hoped. It was 46 degrees or so with a strong north wind, but sunny and clear skies. The Magnum started and ran fine...

RE: Goldberg Extra 300

Thanks. I only had to open up the side hole a little bit in the front to clear the pushrods and some in the back to clear the cooling fins. There is really good airflow through this big cowl so it...

RE: Goldberg Extra 300

Thanks Karol. I'm using the manufacturer recommended APC 14 x 6 prop and 10% nitro fuel for the break-in period. I've run a couple tank fulls through it on the stand and leaned it a little at a...

RE: Goldberg Extra 300

Well, I'm still WAY behind the power plant of most you, but I've just swapped out the Evolution 61 2-stroke for a Magnum 91 4 -stroke in my very old and tired GP Extra. The Magnum bolted right on...

RE: Goldberg Extra 300

Nothing new as far as flying the Extra to report since my last post. I've been away on vacation in northern Germany and the weekends up here in Maine have been poor flying weather lately.

I...

RE: Goldberg Extra 300

Flew my 20+ year old, second hand CG Extra Sunday in some pretty stiff wind and it flew great. The new fiberglass landing gear and forward position improve ground handling a lot. All of the nose...

Looks great! The aluminum landing gear and spinner set it off nicely. Look forward to seeing your color scheme!

RE: Goldberg Extra 300

I finally had a chance to try it off the snow on Sunday and it worked great. The forward position adds just enough stability to it to allow it handle even the mushy snow that now left (all that deep...

RE: Goldberg Extra 300

I finished up the gear mounting and installed the skis...but we've got too much snow right now. It's great for small planes on floats as they don't sink into the powder but skis don't work at the...

RE: Goldberg Extra 300

I decided the aluminim gear is too big so I've installed a fiberglass set from DU-BRO #789. I cut out the old gear block and made a notch 2" wide and about 3/8" deep and cut a 3/8" thick bass wood...
