RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

Hello guys,
I been away from this thread a couple years. Does anyone know if Zope or Intermidiate finished their planes. When I get time I will have to go back and catch up.
Later,
Brad

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

I was also curious about the two servos on the flaps. Looks like it would have been better to have two on the ailerons and one on the flaps to me. That would eliminate the bell crank on the ailerons...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

Thats a killer looking plane by the way. Myself though I have to stick to the Top Flite series. I would like to have a whole fleet of them. May do the Corsair .60 size next.

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

Im still here and read the thread daily. I have not been working on my planes much in the last 2 to 3 weeks. I got to get some heat for my garage so I can work out there in the winter. The dust...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

Yes I have the blocks you speak of. They are for the two stroke only, I think a 4 stroke mounts right to the fire wall. Which also brings up a question that I have. I want to use the OS 1.20 because...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

Your right I see it in the pic now but the manual was a little vague here. I didn't notice it on the plans either. That is an easy spot to mess up on and anyone early in the build should make note of...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

Did any of you guys end up with a gap underneath the fin? I have about a 3/8" gap between the fuse and fin. I must have cut the sheeting off to short. No problem I can fill it with wood and then add...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

Hey, I will be back on the 51 thru the weekend. Sanding the area under the stab right now, I sort of dread the next couple pages with the stab and elevator install. I would like to wait to glue on so...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

Your gonna have some major bucks in that bird before it is done! Do you plan to use the exhaust in a scale manner, another words will the exhaust stick out of the cowl area? That will be cool as can...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

Hey,
He is concerned about the inverted operation of a two stroke. It is a bit harder to get a reliable idle and smooth transition from an inverted position. The YS has a pump so it doesnt care...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

Looks really nice! Have you already hinged the elevators or are the just pushed into place.
Finishing that area is tough if it is already hinged. I spent about 30 min last night with mine sanding....

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

Glassing adds a small amount of weight but the benefits of added strenght and a paintable surface makes it worthwhile. And yes I glass the entire airplane, prime and paint. Give it a try, it beats...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

The cle was the only mistake I made on my wing. I had glued it with the wrong angle, ended up sanding the heck out of it to get it to fit. It worked just fine but caused a lot of trouble for me....
