RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

Good decision, the bellcrank set up scared the crap out of me. My set up with two aileron servos works great and gives me a lot more confidence.

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

I think if you want to go gas, you should get the giant scale mustang and put a good 50cc in it.

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

Yep 8.5 lbs, check out my wing its built like a 3d plane. You figure the wing has a huge surface area, so if your going to save weight on a finish thats the best place to do it.

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

Yes I sacrificed scale perfection for flying performance but it looks good and flies great. I even built the wing with an open structure, like an aerobatic plane. These 60 size are small enough so...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

My mustang came out perfectly balanced with a tower hobbies 75 on the front, not an ounce of lead. I think it all depends on how heavy your finish is, my total weight is only about 8.5lbs.

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

I'm using standard airtronics servos on all control surfaces and they fly it well, my battery is also the standard pack. The only thing that might require high torque would be the flaps, which I...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

I touched up my camo a bit and cut out everything I need to in the cowling. I'm not real happy with the looks of the muffler, but I guess I can buy a new cowling and change it some day.

One...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

Well, I have everything installed and working. The only thing left to do is balance, add scale exhausts, and put the decals on. My total weight is now 8.5lbs, but I;m sure it will required some...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

I might try using the talc, I have some microballons but I'm kind of scared of them. They cant be good for the lungs.

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

I went with the polycrylic myself, seems to work great and is easier to apply then the polyurathane. I've started priming and am noticing a lot of pin holes, go with at least three coats of the...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

Yes, its monokote. I'm equally concerned with how it looks and flies, so I monokoted the wings and control surfaces to keep weight down. I've had good luck with painting over monokote and for...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

CMP already makes a very nice 70" fiberglass mustang. It might be fun to get into making molds and all that, but its probably more economical to buy the cmp. By the way you can get foam core...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

I had a top flite 190 with a mix of Airtronics and Hitec standard servos all the way around and they handled it with no problem. You dont need any higher torque than a standard servo. I did make...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

I'm about ready to start glassing my fuselage and cant decide on doing the wing fillets before or after the glassing. It looks like its much easier to glass the fuse before doing the fillets, are...
