RE: TOM BRETT'S DESIGNS-UPDATE

I dunno Duane, but this stuff is all your (U.S.) R/C history. Given the amount that was forgotten in the short time since Taurus was designed I would like to think that some sort of archive of this...

RE: TOM BRETT'S DESIGNS-UPDATE

Very gentle heat, locally applied with a little finger persuasion. Then cast a plaster mould by filling the inside. That way you can then vac form as many as you want in thicker plastic, and keep...

RE: TOM BRETT'S DESIGNS-UPDATE

There is rumour of two 'Perigee' kits, un-opened, hiding somewhere in Auckland. I am led to believe that the kit version is a little simpler than the originals, all sheet fin, for one. I am confused...

RE: TOM BRETT'S DESIGNS-UPDATE

Yep, they are quick, both Nimbus and Perigee I have are LA.46 powered, around 5lb each and are pretty serious aerobatic models. Unlike Taurus, these stall and spin when commanded, accelerate quickly...

RE: TOM BRETT'S DESIGNS-UPDATE

Hey Freebird, thanks for putting up those pages, just goes to show that things haven't changed that much, and those guys were wanting just a bit of fun to add to their flying. Mind, I doubt I could...

RE: TOM BRETT'S DESIGNS-UPDATE

And you will notice Duane, that even with all that info, the magazine still got the wing span wrong...

RE: TOM BRETT'S DESIGNS-UPDATE

Well, yeah, I guess it was fun, but not something that should be done more than once per model/modeller. Love the two other 'Orion' variants next to Toms' 'Nimbus'. I'm only guessing, but seems it...

RE: TOM BRETT'S DESIGNS-UPDATE

This is all great stuff Duane...any chance of recording it and saving it in some 'user friendly' format so that future explorers don't have to go down the tortuous path we all had to negotiate?

RE: TOM BRETT'S DESIGNS-UPDATE

Yep, Nimbus 2 is one sweet flying plane. For those who have flown Perigee, Nimbus is just a bit bigger and slightly less 'nervous'. Makes a really good pattern model and one that should be seen at an...

RE: TOM BRETT'S DESIGNS-UPDATE

Duane, just as a reference, the English (RCM&E) three view of Perigee lists the span as '60.9 in.' so again there seems to be no agreement. Reckon if you run a tape tip to tip under the wing you get...

RE: TOM BRETT'S DESIGNS-UPDATE

Yes, Toms Perigee/Apogee article says that both models were the same. Tom drew plans for both the Hobby Helpers group (AAM publishers) and for DMECO when Hal DeBolt kitted the design. Maybe you've...

RE: TOM BRETT'S DESIGNS-UPDATE

I did try, but RCU wouldn't upload for some reason so I'll try again. Yes, it's a very pretty model, both of them actually, and N3 deserves to be built. I will find some rib stock and start a kit but...

RE: TOM BRETT'S DESIGNS-UPDATE

Yep, Nimbus 3 is a pretty airplane. I will build one, you will note that Toms engine suggestions are all for the .50~.60 sizes too. As to your other question, I would suggest publishing a story, and...

RE: TOM BRETT'S DESIGNS-UPDATE

Thanks for that Duane, you have probably saved three models, and a host of memories, from being simply lost in the mists of time. I realise that you are not an archivist, nor a professional...

RE: TOM BRETT'S DESIGNS-UPDATE

Just need to know one major dimension, accurately. I can print out the scans at (say) A3 size, and apply a simple ratio to the result. Take them to the local printer and say "enlarge 'x' times" and...

RE: TOM BRETT'S DESIGNS-UPDATE

Ok, got them, sure is enough to build from, more than you really need actually. I'll have to slot this one in behind the Ju 88 and the Proctor Nieuport kit I was given...so much to do, so little...

RE: TOM BRETT'S DESIGNS-UPDATE

RE: TOM BRETT'S DESIGNS-UPDATE

Wow, I mean, what else can you say? Wow.
And Cirrus with retracts, then N3, another wow. Reckon you need something a bit more permanent to record this stuff than this ephemeral, pixelated medium....

RE: TOM BRETT'S DESIGNS-UPDATE

Yeah..right! But seriously...as much fun as it was, I don't actually think that this one has as many unknowns, or subtle clues etc. to turn into that particular fiasco. It does have some previously...

RE: TOM BRETT'S DESIGNS-UPDATE

Now you're talkin! As for the derogatory comments about mounting beams, be a bit careful there lad. These beams project back into the fuselage structure and really tie the front end of these models...

RE: TOM BRETT'S DESIGNS-UPDATE

That's BI-convex Duane! You do like keeping us on tenterhooks, but seriously I would really like a copy of the Nimbus 3 plans, should they see the light of day.
Evan.
