RE: Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 build

Sorry for resurrecting my old build thread, but if anyone's interested in a Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 kit (half built) I'm selling mine along with all my other stuff. It's the Ultie 2 referred to way...

RE: Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 build

I'm glad to see you've gotten some good out of it all. I've unfortunately been slacking for quite a while on my building so I haven't made any progress yet on Ultie II. It's still sitting with the...

RE: Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 build

The kit comes with metal bolts, but you pretty much have to use loc tite on them if you don't want them to vibrate out.

When I was running the engine in on mine (on the ground) both vibrated out...

RE: Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 build

Not yet.. I finished the wings & all the tail feathers last summer, but got distracted on a couple other projects when I was waiting on some replacement aileron stock from Goldberg.
We had a few...

RE: Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 build

I just dug through my old pictures & found one that has the CG point from the plans. If you notice on the bottom of the pic, it says "balancing range". So, if you invert it as stated before & stay...

RE: Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 build

I just took a piece of plywood & cut it to fit between the two fuse halves where the normal wire gear would go.
I didn't reinforce anything, but it probably wouldn't hurt to put some glass on the...

RE: Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 build

The 1.25 brings the overall weight of the Ultie down, but it does make the nose a little light. I had to put the battery under the tank with all the servo's in the belly to balance it.
I think the...

RE: Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 build

Very nice YS, I'm glad your getting some useful tips. I'm certainly running dual batteries/switches in all of my future planes. ;)

One other thing I'll be doing to my next one is putting some...

RE: Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 build

Thanks for the kind words.

On the first kit there were some pieces that were warped pretty bad, but fortunately it was all standard stuff that I could buy at the LHS.
The second kit seems to...

RE: Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 build

Yeah, that would be a tough sell. I had to agree to let my wife landscape the back yard in order to get my 30% Edge. I'm not sure what I'd have to do to spend $5k. lol

RE: Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 build

BTW, Corsair, that is one sweet looking Ultie.

Which kit is that? I might have to put that one on the radar screen. :D

RE: Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 build

The darn summer is getting in the way of my build time, so I haven't really gotten any more done on it yet. Golf & Flying are taking up a lot of time and I've also got a couple "beater" plane's that...

RE: Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 build

Just got off the phone with Goldberg & they're sending me new Aileron pieces tomorrow. I actually noticed on their site that you can buy the aileron bundle for $2.00. I even offered to pay for it...

RE: Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 build

Here are a few pictures from this weekend. Nothing major accomplished, but I did get the top wing done so I have both wings completed with exception of the TE & Ailerons.

I'm going to call...

RE: Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 build

I did have the front bolt vibrate out while breaking the engine in on mine. (fortunately on the ground) so I ended up using some loc tite on them to firm everything up. With the fiberglassing tape...

RE: Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 build

OK guys, need some advice.

I finished both wing's up to the point where I'm putting the TE & Aileron stuff on and luck would have it 3 out of 4 of the Aileron stock in the kit are warped too...

I did squeek an hour in tonight and mostly...

RE: Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 build

I use 3/4" MDF on my bench. The ceiling tile is dense enough that it stays very flat even with quite a bit of pressure as long as it's not direct. (I get a lot of elbow divot's on the front). :D

RE: Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 build

Thanks, I'm pretty happy with how things are going. ;)

My building surface is a standard homemade bench with MDF (it's either 1/2 or 3/4 inch) on top of it. The MDF is very dense & lays...
