I don't have mine anymore, but I had the gear mounting apart a couple of times. Mine was not Balsa, it was cheap plywood, not a good aircraft plywood like one would prefer. The design was quite...

Balsa? Mine were plywood. That being said it is not great plywood and can delaminate. I'd like to see photos of that. They made a big mistake if they made the landing gear mounts out of Balsa.

Good luck with the new Spitfire Sam. I had an engine out on climb out and mine went in this spring. Broke it up too bad to fix. At this time I don't plan on building another.
It was fun while it...

I didn't mount my antenna because it was not the correct type for the Mk14 I was representing with my scheme. I did spend some time upgrading the cockpit though.

The standard stand offs should provide plenty of length. Your cowl should slide on farther, it actually overlaps the front of the hatch. For some reason you don't have yours slid on all the way.

Good luck on your Maiden. Be aware that the carb is deep inside the cowl, which can cause some heat soak issues. I had to add some airflow to get air to it. On a hot day it's difficult to get air...

I got two more flights on the Spitfire yesterday, and I'm very happy with it. Landings are easy because the plane flies so light. With only a few runs on the engine the 23x10 prop may be a bit more...

Here's a short video showing the end of the second flight. The engine ran clean through the entire flight. I didn't get the engine killed in time on the belly landing, and broke my 23x8 prop. I...

Maiden Report

I finally got some good weather and took the Spitfire to the field for the maiden. I had ran the engine three times prior to this, and it seemed to be performing great. Once again it fired right up...

Hornetnz, go to post 35 of this thread and you'll see how I made the wheels. I did quite a bit of weathering, but it's not extreme and tough to see from that distance. I tried to match up with the...

The exact Model may not have been defined by Phoenix, but there is no doubt that it looks like a Mk.14. I don't think it matches any other spitfire variant.
You can make it a c or an e wing based...

Good to hear that the power difference is minimal. I can confirm the Topflite version fits with plenty of clearance. I've never had the compact version in my hand to test it, but based on the...

There are three sizes from Jtek for the DLE-61. The compact, the Top Flite, and the P-40. The standard compact is the largest of the three, and the cheapest. I put the Top Flite version on mine...

Spitfire and BF-109 both have tiny little canopies. Even though I said the cockpit is too small on this Spitfire, I think the canopy is a bit large. The stock pilot is perfect for it, he has a 1:6...

Based on pure scale he'd be a bit small. He's pretty close to an actual 1:5 scale. The cockpit is quite a bit smaller scale than the plane though. I put in an accurate 1:5 scale cockpit dash from...

I got my Best Pilot's Sailor Malan painted and installed. I think he fits well. The cockpit is quite shallow compared to actual scale, but that works out fine for him. I cut out some holes under...

The plane is built and ready for final paint and detail. Total weight came in at 27.8 lbs. I'm real happy with that, light for this size plane. Initial CG checks indicate I'll need about 10 oz. of...

I'll use a Xoar 23 X 8 for the maiden to give max. thrust. If it can pull it, a 23X10 should be the best prop for normal use. I think the Xoar PJA series gives better performance than the WWII...
