RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

Ian:

It's not that the E-flites are incompatible with the Robart Robostructs; if you want to pursue that solution you'll have to make some compromises.

The E-flite retracts come stock, with...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

Mike:

Is there any cooling for the motor, other than the small amount of airflow that comes in through the scoop and the spinner gap? I know the 50-55 in my 60sized Kaos get's pretty warm. ...

I fixed the link in the other post, but here it is again

It's here in the kit building forum, titled Electric Retract...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

Jimmy:

I installed a set of the Eflite retracts in my UltraSport 60, and don't see any problems with putting them in a TF P51. You can look through the build thread: ...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

I think you could use just about any "standard" sized servo, with 43 or so inch-oz of torque. I used JR 537's on mine, but there's no reason the Hitech/Futaba/Airtronics equivalents won't work. ...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

Regarding the E-flite retracts, we have a guy at our field that has a set of them installed in his H9 Jackal. He's happy with them, and the visual impression is pretty positive: they're all metal...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

Ditto what ScratchBuilder says. The Mustang flies fine, unless you max out the scale/retract details and fly a heavy aircraft with a small engine. Mine didn't have retracts, used a Magnum 91 4s for...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

George... that's a shame. Sorry for your loss. That's almost the same story as what happened with my P-51, except it was the maiden flight. Take off and the first seven minutes of flight were...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

OSU:

You had me worried there for a minute. You might've been a Beaver.

While I agree with everybody that 2.4 is definately the way to go (and I've got a DX7), I'm not sure I'd rush right...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

OSU:

(The Ohio State University, Oregon State, or???)

I have no empirical evidence to support this position, but I think most modern day radios, both 72M and 2.4G, are pretty much...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

I won't speak for the Mustang's setup, but I lost a T34 when the plastic clevis pin sheared off inside a metal torque rod. If you've already got things installed, I'd make sure there's no binding...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

George:

Covering the fillets is a piece of cake. Just cut 1/2" wide strips of ultra/monocote and get yourself a trim iron with a round shoe. Tack one end of the strip down, pull it taught, and...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

Given this is the kit building forum the following might be taken as going over to the dark side of the force, but if you want something that looks like a Mustang, flies pretty well, and...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

Sorry for you loss. Between the Mustangs and Ultrasport crashes, it's been a tough summer on kit builders.

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

George:

Your NA work looks great. You'll end up with a great flyer.

It looks like you did the standard TopFlite "rudder servo pushrod connected to the tail wheel connected to the rudder"...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

Amen. Plus some of us are alergic to CA. I can take the stuff outside, glue two or three joints, and still feel like I can't breath for three days.

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

George:

A couple of ideas:

(1) turn the Robostruts 180*, which looks like it will put more of the wheel into the well, but probably expose some of the strut. (Yeah, I know the oleo fork...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

George:

One suggestion for sheeting the wing: instead of using the 1/16th balsa in the kit, you might consider using 3/32". I didn't build the wing on my Mustang (I got it at a swap meet where...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

Jim:

It must've been "Mustang maiden flight crash day" this weekend, as I also turned mine into a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle. (Cause was either loss of power to the receiver, or some other kind...
