Two problems with 4 blades. First, just like with 3 blades, you have to reduce diameter . You end up with such a small prop that it looks cartoonish and not too good on the performance. To get the...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

You might look into the 531RS from Robart paired with the Wingspan Retract actuators. Looking at the specs, it looks as though it would work.

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

My guess is that the reason no one has answered your question is because there is no source of prefab wheel wells for the 1/7 scale Top Flite P-51.

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

I'm sorry to hear that you're giving up on them. I suppose that doesn't mean that you can't re-visit installing gear doors in the future. But I can certainly understand the desire to move on.

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

I'll be using the Hitec HS-125MG slim wing servos. They measure 1.18" x .39" x 1.33" and shoud fit nicely in the wing. They weigh .84 oz and at 6V have 48.6 oz.in torque.
I have a build thread...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

Hi Riddle,

Weight is one of the potential deal breakers on my idea. I'm not doing this to get max torque or 3d performance, but rather to have all linkages hidden and achieve a more scale...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

I'll be covering my wing with .010" G10 (Flite Skin) instead of balsa and glass, and I need to make up the difference in thickness with capstrips anyway. I was originally planning on using 1/16"...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

That's looking pretty good there. It gives me a lot of encouragement. I think your idea of a little balsa buildup on the front will be just the trick. I think I'll use a little thicker cap strips...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

Hi Bob

I just wanted to give you a Thanks! The work you've done has really been a big fast forward for me as I plan out the retracts for my build. I just finished up my mockup and it looks...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

Functional stacks are cool! I considered it with my Spit, but didn't have the room.

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

It looks like a nice installation. One thing comes to mind though. It looks like it might be kind of tough replacing the rails in the event they are damaged in a hard landing. It still might be...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

Yea, I thought it was in this thread. The Dave Brown wheels are not the most scale looking, but they are light and you can make them thinner.

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

The Dave Brown wheels may be thicker out of the package, but it's my understanding that the hub can be disassembeled and the wheel and hub can be trimmed thinner, then reassembled. I'm not sure...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

I like your mock-up. This post is really going to help me when I finally get to my build. Because of the limited space, I plan on trying to make a custom set of wheels or, if I get too lazy, a set...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

Another option would be something like the Coverite iron on fabric.

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

Great series of photos and descriptions. This really looks like the way to go with the 530 series retracts. Thanks!

For the fuel filler on my Spit, I placed it in the scale location. It came out pretty good.

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

Unfortunately, I don't know of any comparable hatches on...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

Hi Beagle,

Could you explain how you made the hub thinner? One of the biggest problems I've seen with all the wheels on the market, is that they are all too wide. If the Dave Brown hubs can...
