Welcome to Club SAITO !
My Feedback: (1)
Guys, it is with great happiness, joy and pride to inform my Saito Freak friends, that I am no longer a Saito Virgin,,, yes yes, Me, as I am a man, do now, own, a Saito,, (sniff sniff, Jim with tears),
Note that she is my 2nd 4St,, yes she turns, but I have not yet turned her over the compression stroke because the pugs are still in her,, I would like to clean her up and get some oil in her before I do so anyway,, actually I would like to clean her inside and out, but I'm a bit worried if I clean her on the inside I will get what ever I use to clean her on the inside of the Push Rod Tubes and it would mix with the fuel once I start it ??
so yes she is dirty, but she has not been run in some 12 years,, this engine has 2 G-Plugs per cylinder,, so my question is, is she an older, or newer engine than what is in Hbbsy's link in another thread ??
Hobbsy's Link here,,

Hobbsy, I know I talked about trading it, but I don't know what I'm going to do, I have to think.. I do know that Towers has a nice 67" span Phoenix Stinson she would be very cool in

She doent look that dirty . I would look through the exhaust port and if that valve is caked on with carbon or if the bearings are gritty after a good lube I would clean it on the inside . If not clean her up on the outside , maybe soak it in fuel for awhile and run it . Dont use straight methanol ..

to add, on my engine the Needle Valves are closer to the crank case than on the engine in Hobbsy's link,,, still I wonder what engine is older/newer

remember I said that the owner said it was down on power, well I just checked Tappet Lash, here's the numbers
Both Exhaust Valves .008,,
right side Intake.... 003,,,, '
left side Intake.... .006,,,
I don't know about Saito, but on my Magnum 180 4St I had to adjust the Tappet Lash 4 times when braking it in, .004 or .005 did make a difference in power,,
also, I found that one of the Threads in the Head for a Rocker Cover screw is stripped, I don't know if a longer screw will work, I will look into that later on, but never the less that will drive me nuts the rest of my life knowing that, that thread is bad

Jim you sound like a blushing bride being carried over the threshold with your purchase of a saito twin, looks like a tru turn spinner on it.Don't stress on the rocker cover screw there's a few bright sparks here that will have a solution, which may range from do nothing,to buying a new engine jeffie i hope the penny has dropped and you figured the problem out.
Dave here's a better pic of my helmet,i don't think any self respecting totally cool cafe' latte sipping young member of the hog (harley owners group) club would be seen dead in one.Mind you they don't mind fingerless gloves on a freezing morning. That always puzzled me,you wear gloves to keep your fingers warm and safe if you get spat over the bars, they must have a higher pain threshold.A nice medium warm 26c here today tho still cold up in the hills.Took a while for the battery to charge but not that long for the rear tyre to get smoked. If you shut your eyes it almost smells like castor

Congrats Jim, for years I've tried to convince people that counting turns to match someone else's setting is not a good idea no matter what brand, they ain't all the same. I strictly use the Saito provided gauge to set my valve lash, that has never failed me but others use things as thin as the plastic wrap on a cigarette pack. Saitos are not fussy about the valve lash settings. Did it come with the straight black pipes? I put extensions on the HS needles and ran Saito .65 mufflers and later ran TurboHeaders.
Pete, you really missed the boat, I don't belong to HOG, I don't sip Latte's, and I don't wear finger less gloves. But I have fun anyway. That is a great looking helmet, mine is plain black with an orange Harley logo.

If I had the money and the choice, this would be my helmet. I have a line on a Saito 1.82 I might bite on, thinking, thinking. It's actually slightly lighter than the 1.30.
Incidently , I am building Sig Kadet II for one of my little .30's, I built both halves of the fuse yesterday.
Saito 1.30===38.2 oz
Saito 1.82===37.5 oz

That's a nice looking saito 182 twin with flexi exhaust? i clicked on the pic but it's very slow to upload.Does it come with the original short straight pipes, one of them has a pressure nipple and i used that one on my 82.
We don't get that brand of helmet over here but i like the look of them.

That Schuberth helmet costs about 800 bucks here. They carry them at the BMW dealer in Fredericksburg. Fredericksburg has a brand new Harley dealer now too, it's about 6 months old. I haven't been there yet.
I'm not sure about the 1.82's pipes, I'll do some diggin and see what I can dig up. I actually have a few of,those black pipes, two with pressure tap, one at the end and the other about in the center.
Would you believe that this right side pipe is $40+, holy moly.
What time is it there, it's 9:22 PM here. Thanks

I freeze bearings too, Old Fart but not that long and they usually seat without problems. People forget that a lopsided bearing put stresses on the soft aluminum. W8YE recently told me that he is using his drill press and arbor press for bearings and the more I think about that idea the more I like it.
Pete, that is a fine looking Triumph tank.

mine is a different engine, older or newer I don't know, as said it has 4 Glow plugs, and if you look at the photos you will see on mine it has a Tubing Nipple close the head on one of it's Intake Manifolds, but the one in Mr, Lee's write up that one does not have 4 Plus and the extra Nipple

Dave the pipes on that 130 look identical in shape and length to the standard pipes on my 182,it's now got flexi pipes as you will see in the pic below.Yes i would believe forty bucks, they charge marine parts prices because they can i spose.I bought heaps of gasket and o ring sets plus a few saito's,spare everything years ago when our dollar was higher than yours. We are about twelve hours in front of new york time i think if that helps.
Jim if you keep the 130 twin and mount it in something like a stinson you may want to do what i did,if you like scale lines.I'll attach a pic of my 182 in a h9 taylorcraft.I'm using flexi pipe exhausts and the reasons are obvious.
Richard are you flying the 130 twin in anything?

I usually take quick pics of what we do at work more for record keeping so they are a bit average, that's my excuse.A couple of the triumph thruxton r tank and rear solo seat cowl give a better idea of shape
Dang, missed a button. The brushed stainless fuel cap and tank strap look ok too,but the tank strap is a faker and just there for looks,it's firmly bolted to the fuel tank itself.
Barry i like the idea of using a press to line the bearings up square but little force is required to seat them and the crank is a good alignment tool.

Very nice work Pete, I think maybe all the 1.30's were dual plug engines at least any on which you can see a front plug. I believe the, nipple on the right intake pipe was for priming.
PS, those stand offs on flex pipes look good,.
I tied my own shoe's this AM, I had just been wearing slip on's with Velcro straps..

The motor skills are fine but the finger tips are mighty sensitive, the thumb is pain free. I was mounting a Saito .30 on a Sig Kadet II and turning a ball driver was a little painful but I did it anyway. I actually had an extra set of mounts so I set up a mount for FA .40a, the width is so close as to not matter, the hole spacing for and aft is the problem.
