Hey guys,
I am sick of waiting for a magnum 91 on back order from tower. Bottom line, if you had to choose between a saito or an os which engine would you chose? I am looking to power my sig four star 60 and would like to be able to move to a more aggressive plane with that same engine once I am proficient with the four star. Suggestions?

I agree 100%, had a RCV.91CD on mine. Then I borrowed my freinds Saito 1.00, since is was in the shop collecting dust, and HOLY $#!#!!!. Now just need to find the right prop, using a 14X8 APC. Thinking of trying a 15X4 as it almost has unlimited vetical.
Took one bay off each wingtip to shorten it 6", what a blast to fly..

Where did you get the blue double-sided velcro tape? I have some grey just like it I got from Central Hobbies, but the blue is prettier.

Tim, I have a Saito .91 in my 4*60 and it's plenty for that plane. Maybe in a later plane you could use the power of the 100 though. You might as well go with the 100 for the 4 Star.

You can get the velcro from almost any fabric store, nice stuff for holding recievers and batteries.. My freinds dad used to work for a local phone company and they get it in 100' rolls for holding bundles of wire together.

What prop/fuel are you guy's running on the 150's I got one in my 10lb ultimate, I'm using a master airscrew 16x8 K series with 15% omega fuel. I like it enough but, I think it's time to bump up the performance, I've run 4 gallons through it so far and all on this prop/fuel combo so I think it's safe to stop babying it so much .

Try an APC 16x8 or maybe Bolly 16x8. That alone should give you a significant performance improvement over the MAS. If you like the 15% Omega then try the 25% Omega.

Reading this thread got me thinking about something I have been wanting to do for quite some time.
Has anyone effectively raised the compression ratio of their Saito engine to get more power out of it? I would love to do this to my Saito .82. It can run up to 40% nitro without any problems so I think there is a lot of room to tweak the compression to maximize power. I run 25% Omega currently and even in a warm climate, I think I should be able to increase compression without detonation or negative side effects. I imagine the Saito engineers designed the engine to run with seriously high nitro contents, but I don't want to. I'd rather tune the engine to run as efficiently and as powerfully as possible with 25% or 15% nitro.
Yes, I know it is easier to get more power by upping the displacement, but I love to tinker and modify my toys. Increasing power without increasing weight is always a good thing.

I have a Saito 72 which is relatively new but i messed around with the low and high needle valves and cant get it to run well now. What setting should i use on my 72 for the low and high end needles concidering it has only had about 3.5 hours running.

If yours has metal throttle arm set the LS needle even with the end of the barrel, that's just a starting point, if you have the plastic throttle arm set the LS needle 1/16th inch inside the end of the throttle barrel. HS needle about 3 turns out from gently closed.

It uses about $10 worth of parts, is very compact and works well. It's almost as good as having a gas plane when you can fuel up the plane, turn on the gear, flick the prop and fly -- no messing around with glow-connectors etc :-)

I'm still not real hot on using velcro only to hold receivers in place - IF that is what is being advocated here. While surface mount technology has made the receivers much more robust, the limiting factor is that delicate reference or oscillator crystal.
I've used velcro and the thin foam tape to mount receivers, etc., in helicopters before, but have always felt uneasy about it. Just a feeling...<G>

This is typicaly how I set mine up on all planes, this is just a basic idea on our test/thrust stand. I build a similar platform for the bat and recvr. My last plane had well over 100 flights and never had any problems, now I have had balsa sticks break and end up with the battery flopping around. Good thing it had safety wire or she would've been a total loss.

Sigman, Since you have been designated Saito Club Pres.,I,ll come to you with my problem. I have several Saitos also ,100,91,80
and 2-50,s.Guess I have to add that or I won,t be allowed on this site.Anyway,I am building a Reactor 3D bird.I am planning on using my Saito 80 for power,inverted. It calls for a 90 degree elbow to route the muffler out the back of the cowel.Can,t find anything on one except from Performance Specealties.They have the elbows for Saito,but they only fit the mufflers THEY make. So the elbow is $25,but I would have to buy thier muffler also. $70 total . Hoping you Saito gu-rus out ther can help me out....Bill
