Re, the 1.00 and the 1.25 sit in the exact same bolt holes, I have my 1.25 out of its plane right now and could weigh it. The lighter weight is with a TurboHeader mounted.

Any problem to mount engine inverted ? I inherited a Saito FA 50 and want to put it in a 40 size pattern ship which is configured for inverted mounting. An experienced flyer at our field advises against inverted mountings due to a tendency to flame out - says go sideways. Comments ?

The pics on the scale are of the 1.25, correct? What about the length of the 1.25 Hobbsy? The measurement given (119mm or 152mm) is from the drive washer to the rear of the carb. I've got a 1.00 and will check those myself as to not trouble anyone needlessly. Appreciate the help.

That's were I got one set of the info Ken. Can I assume then that these numbers are gospel and the numbers listed on HH's site are incorrect? I think that is the case, since I just looked at the 1.80, and it is shown on HH as being shorter than the 1.25 also.
Still would like to make sure, before I make the offer though. Thanks all.

Don't know why I didn't think to do a forum search on saito + inverted. Found a thread from 2006 with many good comments. Concensus seems to be "no problem".

Bob,
I have 8 Saito's and all but 1 is mounted inverted. I have not had any flame out problems. Make sure it is tuned correctly.

New question. I am building a 25 year old turn around design called the "Reaction". It should be 9 lbs and calls for an OS 120. As that was 25 years ago, I am wondering if my Saito 115 would produce equal or better power than an old design OS. Any ideas??

Dave, I hope you've been flying it for at least 1.5 of those gallons, a Saito can be broken in and set up in about 40 to 50 minutes run time from the initial start up. The LS needle will have a sweet spot that is indeed fairly narrow, it may need tweaked slightly for a different prop since the two needles effect each other somewhat. Other Dave

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Hey, fellas,
I recently started running a used FA91s, I acquired.
Before I started trying to adjust the needles it would start and run with ease. But, it seemed to awfully rich, both HSN and LSN.
As I began adjusting them it became harder to start, and now won't start at all. Even, trying to undo adjustments.
The only thing had not checked previously was valve lash. So I pulled the covers and checked. Intake was about .006" and exhaust at .004". I readjusted lash to .002", on both. But, the compression seems to be lacking. No, I don't have the lash adjusted to close. It's a dead-on .002". And, with Bill Robison recommending .0005" I'm sure I'm wider than that.
With the small valve lash, will there be a noticeable decrease in compression?
Thanks,
EJ

Make sure the throttle is open when checking the compression. If the LS needle is too lean, it renders the high speed ineffective. If you have a metal throttle arm back the LS needle out to even with the end of the throttle barrel. Then start engine with the HS needle at 3 turns out from bottomed out. Then peak HS to absolute peak and leave it there, now start leaning the LS 1/8th turn at a time. Check transition and full throttle operation after every other LS needle change.

Hi guys,
so i was doing the annual on my Sukhoi with a Saito 150 on board and discovered one of my Valve cover screws is missing any idea on the thread diameter and where one might find one.?
it's the older HC Saito 150.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Here is a guess. The 150FA takes the same screws as the 120FA.. I presume they're the same on the HC (perhaps someone could verify that or correct me).
The Horizon Hobby website has a screw set (sorry, they don't list the actual sizes) here: http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...dID=SAI120S14A
Hope that this is some sort of help to you,
Bob

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
I bought a used FA 180 that needed the rear bearing replaced (bad rust). I have the old bearings out and will put the new ones in today. My I join THE CLUB even before I run it the first time. This is my first, but not last Saito, and it will go in a GP Giant scale Super Chipmunk.
Thanks for you site and for your consideration on my becoming a member.
Sincerely,
Dick Smith/SPACEWORM/ARCAV8R

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
got the Carl Goldberg kit from years ago ... built it last winter. no longer use that 3 bladed... using a 16x8 now.
(Except the heavy ones on the PTS planes. That's obvious.)
I would think they could be used to accommodate ground clearance, and still provide a flyable pitch?

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
I acquired a Saito FA150GK a couple of summers ago that has never been run, and I intend to put it on a Seagull Spacewalker II 1.20 at some point......but that's not the question...I just wanted to brag about getting the thing for $135! ;-)
I also have a Saito FA65GK that used to run very well, until it took a dirt nap (no fault of the engine....all pilot error). As a result of the nose first meeting with mother earth, the connecting rods (or at least the tubes that cover them) were bent. I believe the shaft is still in good shape, but I'm not motor repair expert. What should I expect to pay if I send the engine to Horizon for inspection and repair, assuming the damage is limited to this one thing?
