RE: Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 build

Higley suggested either replacing the two laminated pieces of 1/8" ply with a solid aircraft grade 1/4" piece of ply, or at minimum glueing in the cut outs to make the firewall more solid for the...

RE: Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 build

Steve, I won't try to win you over (as far as the soft mounts). It's kind of like the "tastes great / less filling" debate. Every engine has different harmonics if you will - shake more/less at...

RE: Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 build

The small Gator mount will work with the 1.25 fine. The larger one will fit the Saito big blocks (1.20, 1.50, & 1.80). I order mine direct from Gator R/C, but I think Central Hobbies also carries...

RE: Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 build

I use the Gator Soft-N-Safe mounts and like them. The smaller of the two will fit the 1.25 Saito, and it is what I am using on my Ultimate. They are lighter than the DuBro, and nice quality. I have...

RE: Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 build

Tuwood, congrats on your success with Futaba. Glad they did you right. As far as the glass on wing joint, I'd use a 2oz.
I had problems with the clear coat on my cowl, so I've been putting off...

RE: Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 build

Tony, so sorry to hear about your plane! I was really shocked to read about your loss. That sucks! I hope you do build another, and we always learn from our experiences, so if you build another, I'm...

RE: Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 build

For those adding a velocity stack to their Saitos, the easiest way to seal them against the carb is to use a hardware store O-ring of the right diameter. To help allign it perfectly, the end of a...

RE: Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 build

If you have problems getting the DuBro cable to loop through the crimp collar three times, you can strip off the plastic coating with a razor blade.

RE: Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 build

You may have trouble threading the rods. The factory threads on metal control rods are "rolled", which raises the threaded area higher than the diameter of the rod. If you try to cut your own...

RE: Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 build

The aileron linkage you have shows a set screw cable lock type fastener on the servo horn. I would not recommend using that when you fly. Use a solder on clevis for a more positive anchor, as they...

RE: Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 build

If you aren't comfortable with the soldered cable fittings, you can also go with DuBro's pull-pull kit. It uses crimps. I have used the Dubro on other planes, and it works fine. I don't think I'd...

RE: Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 build

Yes, you have the cable set up correctly. It is easier if you double over the cable where it is inside the brass threaded fitting, so it fits better before soldering (make sure to use silver solder)....

RE: Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 build

Ah well, like you said, it makes for a good story to tell. I thought your thumb looked a little crusty in the one pic! I have days like that too, where after 5 mins I just decide it's not a good day...

RE: Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 build

I agree that the location of that former left a long stretch of the stringers unsupported. On mine I made an additional former to glue between "B-B" and the instrument panel former. To make the fuel...

RE: Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 build

Your build looks like it's coming along nicely. As far as your tank, you can cut that former out and mount your tank level. The main thing is to keep the tank center close to centerline of your carb...

RE: Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 build

You know, for a pretty straight-forward build, this kit has taken me a long time to build. I've made a few mods, but nothing major (dual aileron servos, new firewall, aluminum LG, different tailwheel...

RE: Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 build

I don't know if you can see the small wedge I had to add to the LG mount to correct the rake of the gear or not. The other pic is showing the small wood filler I added to correct placement of the...

RE: Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 build

tuwood, ref: lg mount- just use a piece of 1/4" aircraft ply cut to size. Take note of the angle of the LG on the plans. I epoxied mine in at the same angle as the block cutout on the plans, and when...

RE: Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 build

Good advice Tony. Another thing that will help is to bend the tip of the cable over on itself, to double its thickness over a length of about 3/8" to 1/2". That will hold it inside the brass fitting...
